New fire guidance for Landlords

New guidance has been published for Landlords on flats & the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, since the introduction of the order there has been no guidance available for this sector, the new guide recognises the structural fire protection within flats & places into perspective units that have been built since 1970. July 2011 Domestic fire alarms - nuisance fire alarms

When conducting training or conversation with friends all too often the following statement is made: "our smoke detectors are tested each week when we burn the toast!", this is is an unwanted alarm, the big issue with this is that we ignore it assuming it is the toaster again, however what if it is the one occasion it is not?

June 2011 - Plan what you would do if a fire occured

Have you thought about how you would escape from your own home if you had a fire?  You should have as minimum automatic fire detection installed, the key areas to ensure that you have cover is along the route that you would use to escape so this will be in corridors landings & detection should be located in areas of higher fire risk so if you are a smoker think also about the lounge or rooms that are used whilst smoking. May 2011: Fire drills remembering when to do them?

A quick tip for rembering to complete fire drills, when conducting fire risk assessments one of the common areas that is neglected is the fire drill "we are due one" is the general comment, legislation reuires that they are completed & best practise within normal premises such as call centres factories etc is that are completed twice a year.
